Kishi even sacrificed his political career when his U.S. friends asked him to push the U.S.-Japan Security Treaty through the Diet in 1960, despite severe public opposition. By having police remove opposing politicians from parliament, the treaty was ratified, though at the cost of Kishi’s career.
