His financial diplomacy spawned another foreign policy initiative: the 1925 Locarno agreements, which resolved territorial disputes outstanding since World War I and helped restructure war debt. That was the year Dawes shared the Nobel Peace Prize with British Foreign Secretary Austen Chamberlain for his plans. Dawes and Chamberlain had done more for the big banks than they had for Europe.
