The first sign of a Rothschild revolt on Ireland came in 1880, when Natty joined a group of mainly aristocratic “Young Whigs” in voting against Gladstone’s Irish Land Bill, which sought to compensate tenants who had been ejected by landlords for non-payment of rent.
