When he granted an interview to the Sunday Telegraph in 1970, it was such a novelty that the paper trumpeted, “Sir Siegmund Warburg speaks.”31 He enjoyed his reputation as a man of infinite contacts, a canny sphinx, a confidant of industrial titans. Siegmund condemned psychoanalysis as symptomatic of personal weakness and was puzzled why somebody as smart as Jimmy Warburg took it seriously.
