He was extremely worried about political developments in Germany. On August 16, 1937, he penned an eloquent letter that was to be read by Eva in the event of his death. Full of lofty exhortations to have faith in the final triumph of goodness, it also contained characteristic, sardonic touches on how to raise George and Anna.
