Igor Sechin is one of Vladimir Putin's closest and most powerful associates, part of the group of former security men who came to dominate the state. As a Kremlin official and then chairman and chief executive of the state oil company Rosneft, he oversaw the absorption of the main production assets of Mikhail Khodorkovsky's dismantled Yukos, turning Rosneft into Russia's largest oil producer. He is often described as the leader of the hardline, state-first faction around Putin.
