Bob Marley rose from Trench Town in Kingston to become the figure most associated with reggae worldwide. With the Wailers and then under his own name, he blended reggae rhythms with songs about faith, poverty, resistance, and unity, shaped by his Rastafari beliefs. Albums and songs such as No Woman No Cry and Redemption Song spread the music far beyond Jamaica. He died of cancer at thirty-six, already an international icon.
