Barack Obama was a community organiser, law professor, and senator who in 2008 became the first Black president of the United States. His domestic record centres on the Affordable Care Act and the response to the 2008 financial crisis. In foreign and security policy he wound down the Iraq deployment while surging and then drawing down forces in Afghanistan, and he greatly expanded the use of armed drones for targeted killings, a program criticised for its secrecy and civilian toll. He ordered the 2011 raid that killed Osama bin Laden and served two terms, leaving office in 2017.
