Suleiman I ruled for 46 years, the longest of any Ottoman sultan, and led campaigns from Belgrade and Rhodes to the gates of Vienna. Ottomans call him the Lawgiver for reworking the empire's legal system, while Europeans called him the Magnificent. His reign is often seen as the height of Ottoman power and culture.
