William Quan Judge was an Irish-born American lawyer and one of the three principal founders of the Theosophical Society in 1875. He built and led the society's American Section and edited its journals, popularizing Theosophy in the United States. After Blavatsky's death a leadership dispute with Annie Besant split the movement, and Judge led a separate American body until his own death in 1896.
