Harvey Spencer Lewis was an American advertising man and occultist who founded the Ancient Mystical Order Rosae Crucis, or AMORC, in 1915. He built it into a large mail-order fraternity that taught a graded correspondence course in Rosicrucian mysticism and self-development. He claimed authority from older European Rosicrucian bodies, a lineage other groups disputed.
