Pyotr Demianovich Ouspensky was a Russian journalist and philosopher, already known for books on higher consciousness, who became Gurdjieff's foremost pupil after meeting him in 1915. He later broke with Gurdjieff personally but continued to teach the system, presenting it clearly in In Search of the Miraculous. His writings introduced many Western readers to the Fourth Way.
