The greatest mathematician of antiquity and a pioneer of applied physics.

Served the court of Syracuse. No secret society.

Archimedes found ways to measure areas and volumes that anticipated integral calculus by nearly two thousand years. He explained the lever and buoyancy and built machines that defended Syracuse against Rome. He was killed by a Roman soldier during the city's fall.
