The first of the great Islamic philosophers, who brought Greek thought into Arabic.

Al-Kindi led the effort to translate and interpret Greek philosophy and science in the Islamic world. He wrote across mathematics, optics, medicine, and cryptology, and pioneered frequency analysis for breaking codes. He opened the path for the philosophers who followed him.
