Leonhard Euler

1707 – 1783 Swiss mathematician

The most prolific mathematician in history.

A devout Calvinist Protestant who defended the faith and led family prayers.
Affiliations
Member of the St. Petersburg and Berlin academies. No secret society.

Euler worked across nearly every field of mathematics and gave us much of its modern notation, including the symbols e, i, and the function notation. He founded graph theory and made deep advances in analysis, mechanics, and number theory. He kept producing brilliant work even after going blind.
