Born Russian Orthodox, he held unorthodox private views and clashed with the church.
Affiliations
Professor at Saint Petersburg. No secret society.

Mendeleev arranged the elements by their properties into the periodic table and boldly predicted elements not yet discovered. When those elements were found as he described, his system was vindicated. The periodic table remains a foundation of chemistry.
