Friedrich Engels managed a textile business in Manchester whose profits kept the Marx family alive for decades. His firsthand study, The Condition of the Working Class in England, shaped the pair's analysis. After Marx died, Engels edited and published the unfinished second and third volumes of Das Kapital.
