Rosenberg was the Nazis' leading ideologue, preaching a racial worldview meant to supplant Christianity and pushing a projected pagan-nationalist faith. As minister for the occupied East he bore responsibility for plunder and mass murder there. Convicted at Nuremberg, he was hanged in 1946.
