Sixtus IV rebuilt much of Rome and gave his name to the Sistine Chapel, which he had constructed. He filled the college of cardinals with his relatives, and his family's ambitions drew him into the Pazzi conspiracy against the Medici in Florence. He authorized the Spanish Inquisition under the Catholic monarchs in 1478, though he later objected to its harshness.
