Lavr Kornilov

Kornilov was named army commander-in-chief under the Provisional Government and in 1917 marched troops toward Petrograd in what Kerensky treated as an attempted coup. The failed Kornilov affair discredited the government and let the Bolsheviks arm the workers. He escaped to the south and helped found the anti-Bolshevik White army before dying in battle in 1918.
