He was born Jeffrey Preston Jorgensen in Albuquerque and took the surname of his stepfather, Cuban immigrant Miguel Bezos, who adopted him. He founded Amazon as an online bookstore in 1994 and grew it into a retail and cloud giant. He also founded the rocket company Blue Origin.
