Agustin Carstens is a Mexican economist and central banker who became general manager of the BIS in December 2017 and served until mid 2025. He had earlier been Governor of the Bank of Mexico and the country's finance minister, and had worked at the International Monetary Fund. He pushed the bank's work on digital currencies and cross-border payments.
