Vittorino da Feltre founded a school at Mantua known as La Giocosa, or the House of Joy, under the patronage of the Gonzaga family. He taught a humanist curriculum of Latin, Greek, mathematics, and physical exercise, and admitted poor students alongside the children of nobility. His methods, which favored encouragement over harsh discipline, became a model of Renaissance education.
