Lee Harvey Oswald was a former US Marine who defected to the Soviet Union and returned to the United States. Arrested for the assassination of President Kennedy in Dallas in 1963, he denied being the shooter and was murdered two days later by Jack Ruby before he could stand trial. The Warren Commission concluded he acted alone; the lack of a trial and unresolved questions have fueled dispute ever since.
