Antonio Jose de Sucre was Simon Bolivar's most trusted commander and won the decisive Battle of Ayacucho in 1824, which broke Spanish power in South America. He became the first constitutional president of Bolivia, named after Bolivar. He was assassinated in 1830 while still a young man.
