Tigranes II, called the Great, expanded the Kingdom of Armenia to its greatest extent, taking territory across the Near East. He built a new capital, Tigranocerta, and allied with Mithridates of Pontus against Rome. His empire collapsed after Roman campaigns, and he ended his reign as a Roman client king.
