Ferdinand ruled Aragon and joined with Isabella of Castile as the 'Catholic Monarchs' who consolidated Spain. Together they set up the Spanish Inquisition and, in 1492, ordered the Jews to convert or go into exile. Court financiers such as Abraham Senior and Isaac Abarbanel lobbied him against the decree, without success.
