- Religion
- Judaism (Rabbinic)
- Affiliations
- Krakow; yeshiva head
Isserles led the Jewish community and yeshiva of Krakow and was its foremost legal authority. Because Caro's Shulchan Aruch followed Sephardic custom, Isserles added notes called the 'Mappah' recording the differing practices of Ashkenazi Jews. The combined text became the accepted code across the Jewish world. His birth year is given variously in the sources.
