Oppenheimer managed the finances of Duke Karl Alexander of Wurttemberg, reforming taxes and the mint in ways that made him widely resented. When the duke suddenly died in 1737, his enemies arrested him, tried him and hanged him in 1738. His story was later twisted into the Nazi propaganda film 'Jud Suss', which used a distorted version of his life to incite hatred of Jews.
