Yoweri Museveni led a guerrilla war that brought him to power in Uganda in 1986. His government sheltered and supported the Rwandan Patriotic Front before 1994, and Uganda later intervened repeatedly in the wars in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In power for decades, he is credited with early stability but criticized for entrenching his rule and suppressing opposition.
