Andre Gunder Frank was a German-born economist who became a leading voice of dependency theory. He argued that the wealth of rich metropoles and the poverty of dependent satellites were two sides of the same capitalist system, coining the idea of the development of underdevelopment. His later work turned toward long-run world-systems and global economic history.
