Samir Amin was an Egyptian-French Marxist economist and a leading dependency theorist. He argued that the global system enforced unequal exchange between center and periphery and called on poor countries to delink from it and pursue self-reliant development. He helped found and lead the Third World Forum and wrote widely on imperialism and Eurocentrism.
