Suharto-era technocrats: Widjojo Nitisastro

Widjojo Nitisastro was the chief of the group of US-trained economists known as the Berkeley Mafia who guided Indonesia's economic policy under Suharto. They opened the country to foreign investment and Western-aligned development after 1966. Their work is a case study in how outside-trained technocrats shaped a Global South economy under an authoritarian client regime.
