Karachi-born businessman who supplied labour for the Uganda Railway and built much of early Nairobi, the first Indian on Kenya's Legislative Council.

Alibhai Mulla Jeevanjee was a Karachi-born trader who became a major contractor supplying Indian labour and provisions for the building of the Uganda Railway. He grew wealthy in property and commerce and constructed many of the early buildings of Nairobi, donating the city its Jeevanjee Gardens. He founded an early newspaper and became the first Indian appointed to Kenya's Legislative Council, campaigning for the rights of the Indian community against settler discrimination. He is remembered as a founding figure of Nairobi's commercial life.
