Kenyan dissident detained without trial under both Kenyatta and Moi and later tried for treason.

Koigi wa Wamwere, from Nakuru in the Rift Valley, became one of Kenya's most persistent government critics. He was detained without trial under Jomo Kenyatta and again under Daniel arap Moi, spending long stretches in prison. In the 1990s he was charged in connection with a raid on a police station in cases his supporters called political; he wrote several memoirs about detention and torture.
