Harold Laski was a political theorist who taught at the LSE from 1920 and held its chair of political science. He was a leading voice on the British left, an influential teacher, and chairman of the Labour Party in 1945-46 as it won power. His politics moved toward Marxism over his career, which made him a lightning rod for critics. Among his many students was the young John F. Kennedy, who enrolled at the LSE in 1935 before illness cut his studies short.
