Digo settle as the southernmost Mijikenda contested
The Digo are the southernmost of the nine Mijikenda peoples, living along the coast from around Mombasa south to the Tanzanian border and into Tanga. Their traditions, shared with other Mijikenda, trace migration from Shungwaya to fortified ridge-top villages known as kaya. Historians treat the Shungwaya story as a widely held tradition whose details are debated.
