In 1949, he visited Paul Ziegler at his monastery. Originally Jewish, Ziegler was an old friend who had converted to Catholicism and become a Benedictine monk and Siegmund came away highly impressed by his regulated life.22 Siegmund’s head seemed too large for his body, and the symbolism was appropriate, since he was an entirely cerebral person.
