William Howard Taft

Only person to serve as both president and chief justice.

Taft pursued antitrust enforcement and dollar diplomacy as president. The Sixteenth Amendment authorizing the income tax was ratified during his term. He later became Chief Justice of the United States, the only person to hold both offices.
