Michael Maier was a physician and alchemist who served the Holy Roman court and became one of the most prominent defenders of the Rosicrucian manifestos. His lavishly illustrated books, including Atalanta Fugiens with its emblems, music, and verse, presented alchemy as a path of spiritual transformation. He helped carry Rosicrucian and Hermetic ideas from Germany into England.
