Sima took over the Iron Guard after Codreanu's death and joined Antonescu in the short-lived National Legionary State in 1940. The Guard's pogrom and failed rebellion in early 1941 led Antonescu to suppress it. Sima fled abroad and continued to lead legionary exiles until his death in 1993.
