L. Ron Hubbard was a prolific pulp fiction writer and Navy officer who lived with Jack Parsons in 1945 and took part in the Babalon Working the following year. In 1950 he published Dianetics, a self-help system that became a bestseller, and in 1954 he reframed his teachings as the Church of Scientology. He built the church's core practices and its Sea Org, and was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the Operation Snow White prosecutions. He spent his final years in seclusion and died in 1986.
